Sochi for families

Sochi is one of the few destinations where you do not have to trade off what works for children against what works for adults. Distances are short, the main activities are outdoors rather than exhausting, and spacious accommodation is available on both the coast and in the mountains.

Where to stay with family

Adler is the most practical base for families: close to the airport, with parks, restaurants and short walking distances. Apartment-style stays and suites work far better than separate rooms when travelling with children. Rosa Khutor and Krasnaya Polyana are excellent for quieter mountain surroundings and a higher standard of stay, but they require a transfer from the airport.

Activities for every age

The Rosa Khutor cable cars are the one activity nobody objects to: no effort, views worth the trip. Water parks and amusement parks on the coast fill a full day with younger children. Sochi National Park and the waterfalls suit gentle walking with older family members. The Olympic district is good in the evening because it is open and easy to walk.

How to structure the day

The most common mistake on family trips is an overcrowded schedule. The practical rule: one main activity a day, with open time around it. With a multi-generational group, keep the harder activities optional - part of the group hikes while the rest stay in the village or along the seafront.

Frequently asked questions

Five days is comfortable: two on the coast, two in the mountains and one flexible. Seven days is better for larger groups that need a slower pace.
