A five-day itinerary for Sochi

Five days is the ideal length for Sochi: enough to split your stay between coast and mountains, and not so long that the days start repeating. This plan is sequenced so the strongest part comes at the end.

Days 1 and 2: the coast

Arrive and settle in Adler. Day one stays light: the seafront and Olympic district in the evening. Day two goes to Sochi National Park and the waterfalls, or the water parks if you are with young children.

Days 3, 4 and 5: the mountains

Move up to Rosa Khutor on the morning of day three. Day three for the cable cars and the village, day four for the mountain trails (or skiing in winter), and day five kept light before departure. Putting the mountains in the second half is deliberate: you finish on the strongest impression rather than returning to the coast after seeing the peaks.

How to adjust the plan

With young children: add a coastal day and drop the hiking day. In winter: give days four and five to skiing instead of walking. With a large group: keep the mountain activities optional so the whole group does not have to move together each time.

Frequently asked questions

Yes on a five-day trip. The transfer costs half a day but it is worth it, because the two experiences are genuinely different and commuting daily is worse than moving once.
